It’s Also For Me Essay Since I was in prep school, there is always a significant number of people who talk to me in English. And even if it’s not my prime vernacular, I try really hard to converse back. I have to admit that, most of the time, I have difficulties in understanding native English speakers as the use of slang is very popular here in the United States. I got the hang of it, though, by trying to learn the language on my own – whenever my schedule permits. I scan the dictionary every once in a while, read English short stories often, and ask my friends to talk to me in English whenever possible. These are the few ways I dig to acquire competence in writing and speaking in English, not to mention the fact that I never have had an English subject back in elementary and high school. Now that I plan to enter college, I need to pass the University Writing Skills Requirement (UWSR) as a requisite for a baccalaureate degree in my prospect university. This requirement is to measure a student’s competency in English writing. It’s a tough thing for me – that’s a given. But with my determination and persistence to hone my English skills (writing in particular), I am certain that I will be able to go through it and be admitted. Why not? This could also be for me! I want to prove to myself that even if I’m not a native English woman, I can put myself in a position where the natives are in – level myself to them, so to speak. I started writing in English in grade school. Even if my phrasing is bad, and most of my sentences consist of grammatical errors, I never forwent my desire to write. To strike a balance, though, I also write in my native language which is place native language here. I kept a diary and wrote a number of poems both in English and in place native language here. Back then, I remember I had troubles with my subject-verb agreement. I weren’t able to differentiate phrases from sentences, nouns and verbs, the past and present tenses and all that jazz. And as to speaking, I seemed to suck at pronunciation; I used to pronounce mad, mud and mod in the same way! But as I said, that was before. I am now pretty complacent of my English skills, more importantly in writing. I considered challenge every single encounter I had with a native English speaker. I tried to talk back with all confidence; and true indeed, each experience 0effected to an improvement in my skills. I am positive about satisfying the UWSR by taking the Writing Skills Test (WST) which will demonstrate my critical thinking and good analysis. I answered a few English-written essays before, analyzed a few texts and answered tough personal questions from previous mentors. These have greatly helped me in enhancing whatever level of English I possess. With these all together, I am confident to take the WST. Young optimist I am, I believe that language should never ever curtail a child’s longing to be educated in a good school. Education for me is something to be literally fought for – something a child, no matter how financially constrained, should not fail to have. Everyone is entitled to it. I AM ENTITLED TO IT. James Cassedy’s Medicine in America, A Short History takes a comprehensive look at medical progress in America from its colonial days to the present time. The book takes on five different themes in discussing medicine. First, it discusses the medical establishment, and how it develops over time. Second, it looks at the alternative to established medicine. Alternatives consist of any kind of medical practice outside the orthodox practice of the time. Third, Cassedy explores the science of medicine, taking time to recognize individuals who make significant discoveries in the field of medicine. The role of government in science is the fourth theme studied by Cassedy. The government makes considerable efforts into the regulation of medical practice in America. The final theme is the role of the environment in the health of Americans. In covering these themes, Cassedy breaks American history into four different time periods. The book will best be reviewed by looking at each of thes e time periods, and how they cover the aforementioned themes. Logically, the book begins by discussing the period of time that America is under the control of Britain. The first inhabitants of the continent took a beating from diseases carried by Europeans. Native Americans did not have the immunities instilled in Europeans. Disease is accredited to wiping out nearly 90 percent of Native Americans. The colonies, however, also had to deal with diseases. Very few physicians lived in the colonies due to the fact that Britain was still the mother country. With the medical establishment being as small as it was, the women of the household often took care of the day to day healing. Midwives handled childbirths, and basically anyone with any knowledge of medical literature was considered capable of healing. Some of the common treatments included steam baths, religious rights, and herbal remedies. Surgical methods were basically limited to that of setting bones and pulling teeth. Realizing that sanitation was a problem, larger towns eventually began to pass regulations on the removal of garbage and dead animals. Health related science was circulated by means of periodicals. Along with being a contributor to medicine as a scientist, Benjamin Franklin often published medical information in his newspapers. A strong supporter of inoculation, the Reverend Cotton Mather frequently wrote about medic... ...lear weapons and the affects of radiation. The AIDS epidemic is an example of a modern day disease that prompts massive government funded research and public awareness. The medical establishment now is maintained by such organizations as the American Medical Association (A.M.A). The emergence of effective medicine gave way to more success and trust in the American medical institution. Current advancement in medicine, however, tends to be tainted by the glory of discovery. While orthodox medicine continues to flourish, people still tend to seek unorthodox methods of healing, such as acupuncture. All things considered, medicine in America has made dramatic improvements since its colonial days. James Cassedy has made an excellent overview of the history of medicine in America. Granted that this book will not win any literary awards in the near future, it is still a well-written tool in beginning one’s research of medicine. He presents his topics in a manner that makes them in teresting, and causes readers to question the past of their medical culture. His choice of themes leaves little to be desired, and he thoroughly discusses each of them in relation to his specified time intervals.

Personal Plan Essay

My personal plan is to for me to better myself with my personal and educational goals. With the help of the Career Interests Profiler and Career Plan Building Activity I can identify what I need to work on. Also, they help make my SMART goals, which I think are necessary for me to complete to make my personal plan successful. My SMART goals are; take a Math workshop within the next 2-4 weeks to improve my math skills, take a writing workshop within the next 4-6 weeks to improve my writing skills, find a mentor that is an accountant within the next 6 months, explore the accountant job market within the next 2 months, and to take a study guide workshop within the next 3-5 weeks to improve my study skills. I think that those two results along with my ethics results will help me guide through my academic and personal journey. I also agree with my competency’s results. I think it is more important to work on areas that need improvement then to focus on my strengths I feel as though my Personal Career Interest results were correct. My career results are material recording, scheduling, dispatching, and distributing material recording, secretaries, administrative assistant, and supervisor of an office, administrative support worker and supervisor of sales worker. I also feel as though my results matched my strengths. The results revealed that my strengths are that I am conventional, enterprising, and social. I take my personal education and career goals very serious. I feel as though my goals are what is going to help me succeed in my education and career. My biggest personal education goal is to graduate with a Bachelors in Accounting. Another educational goal I have is to try my hardest to uphold a 3.0 GPA. When it comes to my career goals I know they are ones that I will accomplish, because they are the reason why I am in college. My first career goal is to become an accountant. Then once I am an accountant I want to work for my local hospital and be their accountant. And my final career goal is to have my own CPA business. I think that everyone should have education and career goals, because that is what pushes you to succeed. My career interests will help me guide through my academic journey, because I will know what courses I need to take to get my career. After taking the Career Interest Profiler, my results showed me that I am meant to be an Accountant. My competencies will guide me in many ways through my  academic journey. My competencies that will guide me through my journey are that I learn from failure and success, follow instructions from others, follow procedures and policies, achieve goals, uphold ethics and values, work under pressure and, demonstrate an immediate understanding of newly presented information. I feel as though pursing a degree does help me build on my competencies that I need for my future career. The competencies I need to build for my career are to set high standards for quality, build diverse teams, work under pressure, rapidly learn a new task and commit information to memory quickly. The academic work that I do for my course assignments are related in some type of way to all my competencies. For example my competency to set high standards for quality goes hand in hand with setting a goal to write the best papers that I can for my course assignments. My personal ethics, Career Plan competencies, and reasoning abilities results will all help me in many ways to guide me through my academic journey. My personal ethics will help me to know what is right and wrong when it comes to my academics. For example I will work hard to do my writing assignments instead of choosing to plagiarize. My competencies and reasoning abilities will also help me through my academic journey. All of my competencies and reasoning abilities will help me. I do not only believe that all three of these things will help me through my academic journey but that my academic journey will help me build on these things to make them stronger for future career.

Anglo-Saxon Literature Was Composed Between The Years 650

Anglo-Saxon literature was composed between the years 650 and 1110. Beowulf is one of the most famous epics written during this time. It’s also known as the oldest surviving Germanic epic and the longest Old English poem. Most stories written during this time were about the deeds of warriors, heroic acts, and religion. Beowulf is a warrior from the Geats who is asked to come protect king Hrothgar from an attack by a sea monster named Grendel. All of these characters are men. There are very few epics from this time that put any focus on women’s issues. Beowulf is one of the few. The three most important were Wealhtheow, Grendel s Mother, and Hildeburh. Modthryth and Hygd are two more minor, but important characters. Wealhtheow is also a prime example of a peacemaker. She was important in estab lishing the status of the men that came in front of her husband, the King. She gives them their status by sending around a mead cup; first to her husband, then she works her way down the line. When Beowulf first arrives she serves him last because he is new and hasn’t made his way up yet, but starting at line 1162, she serves Beowulf right after her husband showing that he has earned his spot next to the King because of his service to their land. She also plays a major role in deciding who is the heir to the throne. Her husband makes Beowulf the King, but only until his sons are old enough, per his wife’s request. She is the reinforcement of social norms or traditions.
